Values are everything at this gym
I’ll cut to the chase. The following values are at the heart of everything we do, from the programming, to the vibe, to the coaches you’ll meet. If they resonate with you, you’ll probably fit right in!
Your body is f*cking cool
This is a space for bodies. Queer bodies. Fat bodies. Skinny bodies. BIPOC bodies. Old bodies. Strong bodies. Hurting bodies. Athletic bodies. Bodies that have seen some shit. Whatever body you’re bringing in, we will advocate for its care and respect.
We have zero tolerance for racism, ablism, body shaming, sexism, ageism, or bigotry of any kind.
Hard things are hard
We build strength by safely expanding the boundaries of what you’re capable of physically, mentally, and emotionally. Whether it’s a marathon or your first pushup, there’s nothing quite like doing something you once thought impossible. Getting there, however, isn’t always roses. We’re here to support you in all of your human-ness as you do hard things.
Hell yeah!
Get a personal best on your deadlift? Hell yeah! Show up to five classes in one week? Hell yeah! Didn’t lose your shit when that jerk cut you off because you felt awesome after class? Hell yeah! Fist bumps and happy dances are standard. We’ll help you discover movement that lights you up, and cheer you on as you become the most badass version of yourself.
Hi. I’m Tess (they/them).
Owner & Head Coach
I opened Ashland Strength Studio on Jan 1, 2022. At the time, I was looking for a COVID-conscious, body-neutral, queer-friendly place to train and just couldn’t find one in the area. Having owned a studio in Seattle for years prior, I figured it was time to create a safe space in the Rogue Valley for people like me to connect with their bodies and community.
My training style is relaxed, collaborative, and practical. I love working with introverts and folks who aren’t “gym people.” I have 10 years of experience collaborating with medical professionals to help people with complex injury history, chronic pain, or trauma reclaim their strength and feel more at home in their own skin.
Hi. I’m Laura Lee Joyce (they/them).
NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Virtual Training Specialist
Reconnecting with the joy of movement at Ashland Strength Studio inspired me to become a trainer! My approach to training is informed by my core values: bodily autonomy, health, fun, empowerment, and self-actualization. I focus on skill development and self-efficacy, and I love witnessing the Aha! moment when a client recognizes their undiscovered abilities.
